National Culture Night 2014 taking place in Letterkenny and An Gaeltacht

National Culture Night takes place around the country on Friday, September 19th and there will be two programmes in Donegal – one in Letterkenny co-ordinated by Donegal County Council Cultural Services, and another in An Gaeltacht, co-ordinated by Ealaín na Gaeltachta.

 

This will be Letterkenny’s 6th. occasion to participate in Culture Night. In common with other participating towns and cities across the country, local people and visitors to Letterkenny will enjoy an evening of highly accessible, FREE OF CHARGE, family friendly events in 22 cultural facilities and public spaces, throughout the town.

 

Culture Night 2014 Programme of Events is centered around, among others, Donegal County Museum, the Regional Cultural Centre, Letterkenny Town Park, the County Donegal ETB Music Education Partnership, An Grianán Theatre, The Artworks, The Central Library, St. Eunan’s Cathedral, Conwal Parish Church, Create-A-Link Art Studio, ArtCo Gallery, Donegal Youth Service @ The LOFT and the Save The Church Lane group.

 

Among the most anticipated events will be the ever-popular illuminated, nigthtime ‘Loinnir’ Sculpture Trail at Letterkenny Town Park, Donegal County Museum’s highly evocative ‘Donegal and The First World War Exhibition’, Patrick Scott at the Regional Cultural Centre, Paul Sweeney (ex. Capitol Showband) and the visit of his Sweeney’s Jazzmen quartet to An Grianán Theatre, a special North West Words night at Café Blend with Colette Ní Ghallchóir and Moyra Donaldson, four of the county’s finest choirs in performance – St. Eunan’s Cathedral Choir, Colmcille Gospel Choir, Gaudium Chamber Choir and The Conwal Singers, ZoNa Dance Co. performances and workshops at Pinehill Studios, Donegal Music Education Partnership’s ensembles in performance and in rehearsal, exhibitions, talks and walks on The Church Lane, a full programme of art workshops for children, exhibitions and music at the Create A Link Arts Studios, and much more besides.

 

The Culture Night programme in An Gaeltacht includes, among other events,  a major retrospective exhibition by the An Cosán Glas artists at their base in the  Falcarragh Industrial Estate, a mystery bus tour hosted by the Cuisle group of Gaeltacht artists’ and crafts peoples’ workspaces, a traditional Oíche Airneáil with Clann Mhic Ruairí at áislann Rann na Feirste and an evening with vistuoso traditional ensemble An Crann óg, at Leabharlann Phobail Ghaoth Dobhair.
